Hi! My name is Chang Koon Yuen. My friends usually just call me Chang and my family and relatives call me Koon. I am a Singaporean Chinese presently living in Vietnam; well, HoChiMinh City to be more exact.
My life had been very eventful, this means that like with everybody else, there were some good events and some bad events. But I do not regret any moment of it. I have now arrived at another chapter in my life: Photography. Although my great interest is in engineering that was developed from a young age whilst helping my mechanic father to repair cars along the roadside before I could even drive a car, I had always liked photography. When I was a teenager, I bought an Olympus OM-10 Film camera with Manual Adapter, a standard Zuiko 50mm F1.8 Lens, Hoya 28-85mm F4 Zoom Lens and a Hanimex 80-200mm F4.5 Macro Zoom Lens. I tried to learn to take good photographs but had to give up after some time as it was too expensive to develop films. I still have the Olympus camera and lenses with me, though they are somewhat in not so good a condition.
Due to various circumstances (that I may elaborate in another website that I may build), I am now picking up photography again. This time I got myself a Nikon D3200 with a standard Nikon 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 Lens and Nikon 55-300mm F4.5-5.6 Lens. I had also tried to read as much as possible about the art and science of digital photography. More importantly, after reading and listening to many of the photography masters, I now have a better understanding of what photography is about. Just like a person, I learnt that it is not just taking a nice photograph with correct settings and lightings (ie how pretty or handsome the person is), but what is inside the photograph (ie the character of the person).
This website shows the photographs that I had taken so far. I tried to apply what I learn and understand. I enjoyed taking these photographs and I would like to pass that enjoyment over to anyone who may want to share my enjoyment.
The photographs (the originals of which are mainly about 6000 x 4000 pixels) are taken in Vietnam. I hope to show the development, the struggles to develop and the ambiguities in the process.
Please join me to enjoy the stories told in the photographs.
